Frequently asked questions

What payment methods do you accept?

Numio services are invoiced and paid monthly in advance by credit card or Visa/Mastercard linked debit card.

What if I need a different Xero subscription?

No problem! If you need a different Xero subscription, we can organise that for you. We'll cover the cost of the subscription up to the value of Xero Ignite and invoice you for the difference.

What is your cancellation policy?

We want to make sure you're happy with our services. So if you need to cancel, just let us know and we'll cancel your service immediately. Of course, we'll also help you transfer your data to a new accountant if you need us to.

However, note that if we have prepared and filed taxes for you and you have cancelled less than 6 months after creating your account, we may charge you up to 6 months of your planned subscription charges in order to cover our costs.

What is included in unlimited help & advice?

We want to make sure you can get the help and advice you need whenever you need it. This means you can message us as many times as you need to, and we'll do our best to help you.

Sometimes you might have questions that need some work completed or a more detailed and accurate answer (for example, they might relate to a more complex or technical tax issue). In cases like these, we'll let you know what is involved and how much it will cost. You can then decide whether you want to proceed with the work or not.

Note that this is subject to our fair use policy. You shouldn't need to worry about this but if you do, see Service Agreement for more details.

What if my revenue or number of transactions change during the year?

We get it, things change during the year. Our pricing is based on the average of the prior 3 months. So if your revenue or transactions change, we'll adjust your pricing accordingly.

(At the start of your service, we'll use your estimated revenue and transactions, unless you provide us with actual figures.)

What if I have more than one business, a trust, or multiple other tax payers?

Prices are determined on a per-entity basis. If you have multiple businesses, or a trust and personal income tax, for example, then these will be priced separately.

What if I'm not using Xero?

We're trying really hard to deliver the best value service we can. To do this, we need to work with Xero. If you're already using another system, we'll work with you to get your data into Xero.

What are the terms and conditions?

Please read through our full Service Agreement for more details.

What is Numio?

Accounting is an essential part of running a business, whether you're a sole trader, a big business, or somewhere in between.

At Numio, we're taking a fresh approach to accounting, designed to make getting the numbers right and staying on top of your business easy and affordable.

We provide many of the same services as your run-of-the-mill accountant: tax returns, financial statements, advisory services, and more.

But we also do things a bit differently. We're an accounting service, but we're also an app. We're "always on", not "last-minute", and we take care of the busywork so you can focus on your business.

We want you to be confident that you're always on top of your numbers, and that you're getting the best advice and support to help you grow your business.

Accounting for everybody. Accounting for the future.

How does Numio work?

Numio is an accounting and bookkeeping service, but we're also an app.

We do things a bit differently:

  • We work with you via the Numio app, which you install on your phone from the App Store or Google Play
  • Numio takes care of your accounting, including the usual stuff like tax compliance and returns, financial statements, etc.
  • Because no one likes busywork, we also do your core bookkeeping for you (like account coding and bank reconciliation)
  • Unlike other accounting services, we're "always on". We constantly monitor and track your tax obligations, so you don't have to. No more last-minute tax returns.
  • Our regular services are priced and billed monthly, so you know exactly how much you're spending.

Who can use Numio?

Numio is a great fit for most people and businesses in Aotearoa New Zealand that need an accountant.

For example

  • Retail stores
  • Cafes and restaurants
  • Builders and construction companies
  • Tradespeople and contractors
  • Wholesalers and distributors
  • Family trusts
  • Rental property groups and portfolios
  • Boutiques and craft businesses
  • Online stores
  • Individuals with multiple income sources (e.g. business and trust income)

Additionally, you must comply with Numio's service agreement, which (in broad strokes) includes:

  • Providing accurate and complete information to Numio
  • Going through AML (anti-money laundering) and ID checks as required by law
  • Being resident in, and operating primarily in, New Zealand

Because we're an app-based service, you must be able to install and use the Numio app on your iPhone or Android device.

If you're self-employed or have a solo business (i.e. you're a sole trader), and if your tax requirements are very basic, in many cases you'd be better off using a service designed specifically for sole traders like Hnry. See Which sole traders would benefit from using Numio? for more details.

If you're not sure, contact us and we'll be happy to help you.

How is Numio different from other accounting services?

Numio is a bookkeeping and accounting service, like your usual accountant, but we do things a bit differently:

  • We're app-based. You can deal with your books and tax on the go, when you need it, wherever you are
  • Always on. Unlike most accountants, we don't wait until year-end to get your tax done. We calculate your tax continuously, as your business earns and spends money
  • Bookkeeping baked in. We handle your core bookkeeping so you can focus on your business.
  • We're always connected. We can help you with your tax, GST, financial statements, and more, all in one place
  • Monthly pricing. All of our regular services are priced on a monthly basis, so you know exactly how much you're spending
  • Future-focused. We're not stuck in the past. We're always looking at the future and how we can help you.
